A Beautiful Lyric

Lauren was 24 weeks pregnant when her doctor said the words “The baby has a hole in her heart, and we believe she has a very rare heart defect called Ebstein’s Anomaly. It’s so incredibly rare that we cannot tell for sure, you need to see a Pediatric Cardiologist.” In panic and shock, Lauren knew that the words “Ebstein’s Anomaly” would change her life forever.

She went in to talk to the doctors about their options, where they suggested Abortion and Amniocentesis tests. Lauren and her family declined both - this baby would be born and loved regardless. They referred us to a Pediatric Cardiologist the next week to finalize the diagnosis. At this point, Lauren was in a deep depression with everything that has happened.

When meeting with the Pediatric Cardiologist, the Doctor went over everything to expect and what this could mean for their daughter. “This is very serious” the cardiologist stated. “Your baby’s heart is very weak, and she may or may not survive” As you can imagine, hearing that from the Cardiologist is a parent’s worst nightmare. Lauren couldn’t think straight as her world kept getting turned upside down.

Fast forward to July 28, 2014 - Lyric was born via scheduled C-section. Miraculously she was pink, gorgeous, and not in need of any medical assistance or life support. Lyric spent exactly 5 days in the ICU before the team of doctors sent her home with close monitoring. Lyric went on to spend 4 and a half years being monitored by a specialist in Rochester Minnesota, that Lauren’s mother found on a support group before he chose to do a proactive surgery.

August 15, 2018 - Lyric has a Cone Repair of the Tricuspid Valve and an ASD (Atrial septal defect) sub-closure. The surgery was a success and she was released in 6 days to head home to San Diego. She is now shining brighter than ever. She even started preschool 3 weeks later because she was doing so well, with some restrictions.

So far, Lyric has lived a very normal and blessed life with minimal intervention and hospital visits. She loves everything Disney including singing and dancing! She spends her time doing her makeup just like every little girl and is no different than the rest! Lyric is showing everyone how strong she is and continues to Never Miss a Beat!
